When I read Zero to One, one thing that Peter Thiel said really stuck out to me: no matter what job you’re doing or what business you start, you’re always going to be selling yourself. Academics, lawyers, and doctors all have to sell their research or practices to excel.
As an aspiring entrepreneur, I found this wildly compelling and knew that at some point, I’d need to get a handle on how to sell with confidence. At that moment, I was leading news processes and business operations at a startup, and I’d had the opportunity to try my hand at sales as well. Admittedly, I was initially scared. The thought of the company’s revenue being on my shoulders alone was very intimidating! But as soon as I started to try my hand at cold outreach, I was surprised to see I actually had a knack for it. Next thing I knew, I was doing demos and closing deals.
Though I found success in sales at that company and future ones, I found that I got more joy out of the process of building and optimizing sales operations than being an individual contributor. That inspired me to start a consultancy where I could share all that I learned with others to help them grow their businesses.
When I’m not in the weeds with my clients, I’m likely to be curled up with a book, writing, or traveling. (I’ve been to 32 countries, and the photos around the site are from my adventures!) I love interior design and entertaining, but my biggest vice is TV. I live in Bushwick with my boyfriend and his cat, Ghostface Killah (Ghost for short).
